Hair Tips

TIP #1: UNDERSTAND THAT CURLY HAIR REQUIRES MAINTENANCE

It is important to take in consideration the type of hair you’ve purchased. Our curly extensions, like your own natural hair, require daily maintenance for the best results. Below we will provide tips to maintain your hair.

TIP #2: PURCHASE A MIST SPRAYER AND SHAMPOO BRUSH

First things first, it’s important to shower your curly extensions with love AND hydration. The easiest way to do just that is to use a moisturizing hair care system that’s gentle on your strands. For a natural look, we recommend using only water. When paired with a Denman Shampoo Brush, it defines the natural curls of the extension beautifully. For the wet look, we recommend sealing in the moisture with Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel. We outline this below.

TIP #3: DETANGLE YOUR EXTENSIONS THE RIGHT WAY

Should you find that your curly hair extensions have a few tangles and knots, it’s best to start the detangling process on WET hair. Tugging at dry curls can lead to unnecessary shedding. NEVER COMB YOUR HAIR STARTING FROM THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD. ALWAYS START AT THE BOTTOM DETANGLING AS YOU MOVE UP. All you need to do is use your shampoo brush and gently glide it through your extensions, starting at the bottom in sections and working your way upward. Then roll the brush outward at the ends of your hair to define and separate the curls. Repeat until your curly extensions are tangle-free.

TIP #4: WASH YOUR HAIR REGULARLY

As we mentioned above, curly hair is a bit high maintenance compared to straight extensions. So, you’ll need to co-wash your hair consistently. If you have sewn-in extensions, co-washing your hair once a week is enough to keep your curls nice and fresh. If you’ve opted for a curly wig and wear them every day, you should also add a bi-weekly wash session to your regimen. Never use alcohol based products.

TIP #8: PROTECT HAIR EXTENSIONS AT NIGHT

When dealing with sewn-in extensions, you need to make sure that you cover your hair at night to keep knots and tangles at bay. Twist into fours or pineapple style your curls at night to keep your curls defined. You can also cover your curly extensions with a silk bonnet.

HAIR EXTENSION NO NO’S:

NEVER USE OIL ON EXTENSIONS to moisturize. Oil is a sealant, not a hydrant.

Oil will only seal in the dryness of your extensions. You need to properly hydrate your hair first. Opt for oil-free shine serums after properly moisturizing for a flawless look.

Don’t use multiple products on your extensions. The simpler the regimen, the better. Find what works for you and stick with it.
